Liquefied Natural Gas Import Facility

Liquefied Natural Gas Import Facility

Spanning 716,000 square metres, the project features eight storage tanks, each covering 6,644 square metres with a capacity of 225,000 cubic metres. The facilities can accommodate up to 22 million tonnes of LNG annually.

Al-Zour Petroleum Complex is home to Kuwait’s first permanent Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import facilities and the world’s largest LNG storage capacity. The complex is designed to receive LNG carriers from international markets, store the cargo in large-scale cryogenic tanks, and degasify LNG on demand. The degasified natural gas is then distributed through the national pipeline network to meet consumer and power generation requirements across the State of Kuwait.

Introduction
Paragraph

These tanks are essential for meeting Kuwait’s rising demand for clean fuel (Natural Gas), particularly for power generation, in parallel with the needs of other gas customers such as oil refineries and petrochemical industries. The facilities ensure an uninterrupted LNG supply for up to 12 days (maximum) without incoming shipments to meet the needs of the local market, delivering 3,000 billion British thermal units (BTU) daily—equivalent to the energy from 540,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
