KNPC Upgrades Crisis Management System

Top Management representatives attended the Crisis Management and Business Continuity workshops conducted during July 2010 at Head Office, three refineries and Local Marketing Dept, along with department managers and nominated representatives at each location.
This series of workshops, planned by the consultant as part of Upgrading of KNPC Crisis Management and Emergency Response System, was designed to create a common understanding on concepts of emergency response, business continuity and crisis management at all levels across the company. The workshops were well received and appreciated by the participants who shared their views with the consultant. Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki, C&MD, emphasized that while finalizing KNPC Crisis Management plan, it should be ensured that it is aligned with the overall KPC Crisis Management strategy. Existing KNPC Crisis Management Plan (CMP) provides a framework for handling a corporate crisis by the company’s Crisis Management Team (CMT) which is located at Head Office building.
It is noteworthy that Process Safety & Reliability Group (PSRG), USA has been appointed as consultant to upgrade the KNPC CMP and CMC in line with international standards, best industry practice and technology and also the existing emergency response plan - Major Incident Procedure Plan (MIPP) .Absence of Business Continuity Plans in KNPC has been identified by the consultant as a major gap in KNPC Crisis Management system. An emergency can disrupt the normal business activity of any of the KNPC functions, which may escalate to a company crisis. Business continuity is therefore important for all KNPC functions and units. At present the available business continuity plans at KNPC are limited to operational continuity and IT Disaster Recovery Plans.Developing Business Continuity Plans (BCP) requires involvement of KNPC Top Management and line functions across company business units. To achieve this the Consultant has planned that series of workshops at different KNPC sites to explain the concepts of crisis management and business continuity.
