Corporate Communication Department Arranges 2nd Open Day for Staff
In the presence of large number of its staff and those of other departments the Corporate Communication Department organized on 19/3/2008 its 2nd Open Day at KNPC spring camp in Nuwaiseeb.
The gathering was meant to help boost inter-communication among the public relations employees of the different oil sector companies. It also served as a wonderful occasion to group together those employees amid an amicable and cheerful familial atmosphere away from the work-place stress and routine.
The event functions started with a speech delivered by Engr. Mohammed Mansour Al-Ajmi Manager CCD who welcomed the attendees stressing the importance of such annual gatherings that help a lot in enhancing mutual cooperation among the public relations departments of the oil sector companies. He also thanked all the attendants who came to participate in the gathering in response to KNPC invitation and hoped that theyb would enjoy the multiple and amusing activities of the Open Day.After that the prominent presenter Mohamed Al-Tahoon came to the stage to launch the entertainment program that included a wide range of interesting games and contests which created a pleasant ambience and drew a smile on all faces.

KNPC takes part in 1st Special Needs Sports Festival
KNPC participated on 28/3/2208 in the first sports festival for students with special needs. The event held at Dasman Model Bilingual School featured the participation of a lot of special needs schools including Al-Kharafi- Down and Handicapped Centers and Special Needs Model Nursery in addition to a large crowd of athletes with special needs.The festival witnessed a wide media coverage and attracted a large number of participants parents who lauded the event and KNPC sponsorship of the activities. After the contests and races all attended a party and received KNPC presents and gifts. At the end of the party medals were distributed to the winners amid great joy of their families.On her part Mrs. Basma Al-Mutawa Public Relations Manager at Dasman Model School thanked KNPC on supporting sponsoring and participating in that festival of special needs who are an integral part of our society that deserves all our care . She hailed the commendable efforts made by Mr. Wael Al-Munaifi during the races and distributing the gifts to the children .

Extrapolating Industrial Investment Options in Oil Sector
Springing from its belief in supporting and encouraging the local industrial sector- KNPC took part in the symposium that was arranged at the Chamber of Commerce & Industry under the patronage of Mr. Falah Al-Hajiri- Minister of Commerce & Industry.During the symposium Mr. Ahmad Al-Tabtabai Coordinator- Systems Development of the Commercial Department presented a work-paper which pointed out KNPC role in activating the approved KPC mechanism and the progress achieved until now based on the following:
-KNPC implementation of a project related to measuring the satisfaction of beneficiaries of KPC mechanism.
-Check the scope of application of the mechanism by the concerned Company departments.
-Implementation of the partnership program with the national companies and plants based on the following pivots:
- Establishing a service center for the local and foreign plants and companies.
-Establishing a consultancy center including representatives of national companies and plants.
-Issue of periodical portal by the Company on the national companies and plants.
-Developing partnership and quality culture among KNPC employees while dealing with the national companies and plants.
The symposium activities included two working sessions for discussing two pivots:
•First on extrapolating the investment opportunities within the oil sector. This included the following:
-Identifying the projects of oil organizations and companies related to the basic products.
-Ways of to have access to facilities from the petrochemicals sector and national plants.
-The opportunities available to be partners of the private / industrial sector and allow it to take part in the current and upcoming oil projects.

Corporate Planning Dept., Updates LP Model
In the presence of Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi DMD Planning & Local Marketing and Mr. Khaled Al-Mushaileh- Manager Corporate Planning- the attendance certificates were distributed to the participants from KPC- IM KNPC refineries -CFP- SCO and STOT who took part in the Site Acceptance Test workshop SAT arranged by Corporate Planning Department for the updated LP Model by Fluor Corporation-PMC. This LP model is planned to be used after commissioning CFP to prepare optimized Operating/Budget plans that maximize KNPC refining margin. Additionally per usual practice- it will be used to perform economic evaluation studies and prepare Five Year Plans which define the company long-term operating strategy starting by next cycle in 2009/2010 – 2013/2014.As part of CFP this LP Model update was aimed to reflect the major refineries configuration changes that will take place within the scope of CFP upgrading/adding new process units.This is mandatory to ensure accurate forecast of KNPC refineries production capabilities post CFP. This fresh update also comprises the new refinery and the Clean Fuel Project CFP in one model which allows greater flexibility in producing plans.Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi and Mr. Khaled Al-Mushaileh took this opportunity to express the company appreciation and thankfulness to all personnel who actively participated in successfully accomplishing this work especially those who reviewed the model changes and enhanced its precision.This step is considered a major milestone to ensure coordination continuity among CP-refineries and KPC-IM as performed currently. Moreover this LP Model will be utilized by Supply Chain Optimization SCO in the future.

KNPC Delegation Visits Nace – Corrosion 2008 Conference & Expo
Representing the Inspection & Corrosion Divisions at the three refineries a KNPC delegation visited Nace – Corrosion 2008 Conference &Expo held during 16-20 March 2008 at New Orleans- Louisiana-USA to get acquainted with the latest technologies adopted in the field of inspection and corrosion.Throughout the conference sessions many work papers presented by highly experienced lecturers from international companies were discussed. On the sidelines of the conference an expo was organized to display the latest inspection and corrosion technologies.The KNPC delegation to the conference comprised of Mr. Naser Al-Sebaiee TL- Inspection & Corrosion - SHU: Fahad Al -Otaibi Sr. Engr. KNPC, Accelerate Energy Sign LNG Import Contract
KNPC and US Accelerate Energy Company signed on 31/3/2008 a contract to qualify and prepare the South Pier – MAA so as to support the liquefied natural gas import operations.The USD 150 million contract was signed by both Mr. Asaad Al-Saad Deputy Chairman and DMD – MAA and Mr. Edward Scott Vice President for Development Sector - Accelerate Energy Company in the presence of Mr. Ali Abdullah Manager Commercial Dept.- Mr. Ibrahim Al-Awadi-TL Project Coordination – Group A in addition to the project work team members.This move came in response to the rising demand of gas and other energy sources by the Ministry of Electricity during summer time as the current volume of gas production in Kuwaiti does not meet the minimum needs of the power generating sector.
KPC had earlier reviewed the available options for providing the required fuel for power plants taking into consideration importing LNG as one of its recommended alternatives. As a result KPC assigned KNPC with the task of qualifying and developing the South Pier – MAA to be able to support the import operations of harboring unloading LNG tankers EBRV ships and re-processing the shipment to be fed into network.The project is scheduled to complete by April 2009 and to start receiving LNG tankers by May 2009.

NVQ Training Course for Assessors in London
In line with plans to improve staff performance KNPC envoys supervisors of the Operations Department for training overseas as assessors of refinery operators in the process units within the frame work of the National Vocational Qualification – NVQ Program. According to the program employees are trained by international assessors affiliated to a British specialized company.
The training course organized at Cumberland Hotel- London in April was inaugurated with a speech by NVQ Trainer Engr. Danny Wright who mentioned that this course is held under the title: A1 Assessor Award for the third level assessors supervisors and over. He added the course will qualify trainees to obtain an accredited international certificate which enables them to work as assessors in world refineries. Training is carried out according to the latest techniques employed by the advanced industrial states with the aim of upgrading the efficiency and enhancing the skills of the trainees.Commenting on selecting supervisors to attend such courses Engr. Wright said that supervisors are very experienced not less than twenty years and this enables them of understanding and assimilating the training programs. Moreover they know very well the best ways to deal with their employees and assess their performance. These are an asset for the oil industry due to their skills that help to minimize casualties and loss of equipment within the refineries besides being highly productive at the work place.
Evaluating the course trainees Engr. Danny Wright said that they are brilliant and attentive individuals who interact discuss and collaborate with the lecturers and with each other to complete the training stages. They are determined to upgrade their skills and enhance the quality of operations.
The group of employees attending the course included the following :
MAB Refinery : Fahd Al-Dosari-Ahmed Al-Kandari and Waleed Al-Taweel.
SHU Refiner : Ahmed Al-Qabandi- Eissa Al-Rashidi and Umran Al-Rashid.On their part the trainees praised the course which focused on the training techniques needed to assess refinery operators at the processing units rectify any malpractices. Nevertheless the trainees called for the course term only 5 days to be at least a couple of weeks.

KNPC participates in 11th Job Opportunities Fair
KNPC took part in the 11th Job Opportunities Fair held during 7-9/4/2008 at Farouk Barghash Al-Mutairi Hall- Petroleum & Engineering College – Kuwait University.The fair organized by the Engineering Training & Graduates Centre - Petroleum & Engineering College, was inaugurated by Mr. Rasheed Al-Tabtabae Undersecretary Ministry of Commerce and Industry in the presence of Professor Adam Al-Mulla- Assistant Dean for Career Planning & Development in addition to the teaching board at the college and the students interested in visiting the fair to be acquainted with the job opportunities offered by the participating companies.
Upon arrival to the KNPC pavilion Mr. Rasheed Al-Tabtabae was received by Mr. Ahmad Al-Fares and Mr. Ali Al-Muhana- HRD Employment Division staff in addition to Corp.Comm. team who elaborated on the job opportunities offered by KNPC for the university graduates in general and the Petroleum & Engineering College graduates in particular.
Mr. Al-Tabtabae indicated that the fair is a good opportunity for the undergraduates to closely identify the labor market requirements through the fruitful dialogue with the participating companies whether public or private and be more familiar with the advantages and privileges which they allow to their employees. He also commended the bright image of all the participants including the private and public sector companies as well as the academic organizations that educate the human cadres capable of coping with the labor market requirements. He expressed his appreciation to all the participating companies over their support for the fresh graduates.On his part Professor Adam Al-Mulla Assistant Dean for Career Planning & Development pointed out that the fair helped a lot in stressing the private and public sector interest in Kuwait University students and graduates and how to be qualified to benefit from the available job opportunities.

Al-Zanki Honors Hala February Participants
In a gala held at KNPC Head Office the Chairman and Managing Director Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki honored on 10/4/2008 KNPC employees who participated in the opening ceremony of Hala February.The event was attended by Mr. Asaad Al-Saad Deputy Chairman and DMD – MAA Mr. Fahad Fahad Al-Ajmi DMD for Finance and Administration Affairs Mr. Hatem Al-Al-Awadi DMD for Projects Mr. Mohamed Mansour Al-Ajmi Manager Corporate Communications Dept.- in addition to the honored employees.
In a brief speech Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki commended the honored employees and thanked them on the efforts they made in participation with the private and public organizations during the celebrations of Kuwait national days despite the unfavorable weather conditions on the festival opening day.On his part Mr. Mohamed Mansour Al-Ajmi thanked top management officials on being keen to attend the gala ceremony adding that the presence of the Chairman and the DMDs usher an act of honoring that constellation of employees who took part in Kuwait national celebrations. Towards the end Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki distributed the recognition certificates and gifts to the 24 employees who represented the company during the national celebrations.

KNPC Takes Part in Economy Makers, Job Opportunities Expo
KNPC participated in the 13th Economy Makers and Job Opportunities Expo that was organized during 4-6/3/2008 at the Administrative Sciences College - Kuwait University in Shuwaikh.The Expo was inaugurated by the Deputy Premier and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Mr. Faisal Al-Hajji who stressed that such fairs could be a chance to provide youth with suitable job opportunities in different sectors through the offers provided by the participant companies besides getting an idea about the privileges offered by companies to their employees.He said there is no difference between working for the private or public sectors adding that the private sector privileges are much better than those offered by the public sector. Al-Hajji noted that Kuwait economy must not rely solely on the public sector but it should be based on all different sectors.Later accompanied by the Administrative Sciences College Dean and officials- the Deputy Premier and the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs toured the expo and took note of the job opportunities provided by the participating companies.At the KPC pavilion- KNPC was represented by Mr. Nabil Al-Bader TL- External Comm.and Mr. Wael Al-Munaifi Specialist External Comm.. The KNPC activities were reviewed in addition to identifying the requirements needed for recruitment in the oil sector. A discussion was also conducted on the recruitment mechanism and procedures adopted by KNPC in this regard. During the discussions the qualifications required for the applicants and the benefits enjoyed by oil sector employees were also raised.

New Batch of NVQ Program Trainees Graduate
KNPC celebrated the graduation of a new batch of 230 refinery operators who completed the National Vocational Quality program NVQ - second and third level. The celebration arranged at Kuwait Hilton Hotel on 27/3/2008 started with a speech by Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki Chairman & M.D who expressed the top management and his own pride over the brilliant scores achieved by this batch of refinery operators and which ended with obtaining the British NVQ certificate which allows its holder to work at any refinery all over the world.In the speech delivered on his behalf by Mr. Ahmad Al-Jemaz DMD Shuaiba Refinery Mr. Al-Zanki said seeing this large number of operators having such prestigious certificate after their distinction in that international program reflects the success of the training policy adopted by KNPC in cooperation with KPC.He also mentioned that KNPC spares no effort to provide its new as well as old employees with all available training and development opportunities because this is the only way to consolidate the company policy and strategy and to upgrade and promote the skills needed by staff members to run a successful business Mr. Mubarak Al-Shamari- Supervisor- Operations -MAB delivered a speech on behalf of his colleagues operations- staff- highlighting the nature of the vocational qualification program and its importance in developing and evaluating the technical performance of the refinery operators. He also said that the program was set in line with shift working requirements.
He added that although the program was applied just short time ago- yet it helped make a qualitative leap in training and development of operators which resulted in smooth- accurate and safe working environment. On the other hand- the program reflects the company- more credible profile before its clients.
Mr. Sami Malallah- Manager Operations- MAB pointed out that the NVQ program is a technical training program for the refinery operators to keep up with the work needs and requirements of the shift system. The program provides the employee with the best learning and training modes at the workplace. He added that the company intends in near future to give the opportunity to the largest number of trainees to develop the performance of refinery operators and upgrade their qualifications to the international standard.At the end of the celebration the graduates received appreciation awards certificates and souvenirs and all the attendants were invited to the luncheon served on this occasion.

Medical Division – MAA Organizes Health Day on Work-Related Stress
In the course of arranging health awareness programs at KNPC the Medical Division – MAA organized on 19/3/2008 a health day on work-related stress in the presence of Mr. Asaad Al-Saad- Deputy Chairman and DMD – MAA in addition to a big crowd of KNPC employees. Due to the great success of the event reflected in the extraordinarily large audience- it was presented again on 1/4/2008 at the Head Office to allow even larger number of employees to benefit from the extremely important topic highlighted according to the health awareness program.
The first event hosted by MAA Refinery- started with a speech by Mr. Asaad Al-Saad- Deputy Chairman and DMD – MAA who welcomed the attendees and thanked the SHE Medical Division staff for the extensive efforts which they made to arrange and execute such programs that demonstrates the company strategy of enhancing its employees safety and health through the application of many programs and projects starting from the regular medical check-up to the vocational health system that provides medical care for staff from recruitment until retirement. That strategy did not overlook the informative aspect of boosting public health principles which were obviously reflected through the health awareness program. Mr. Al-Saad added that the importance of the work-related stress campaign lies in highlighting one of the major causes of under-performance and low individual productivity. It also reflects the transparency level adopted in addressing the health problems related to the nature of work within the industrial facilities where the employees are subject to various modes of stress and tension which would inevitably end up in adverse impacts in case of being handled unwisely or untimely.
On the other hand Mr. Fahad Al-Dihani- Manager SHE Dept. and Mr. Mohamed Mansour Al-Ajmi- Manager CCD launched the functions of the health day arranged at the Auditorium-Head Office. The activities of the two events included lectures presented by Dr. Adel Al-Zaed Psychology Consultant who identified the stress symptoms and impacts on work indicating their causes and how to treat them. He also emphasized the fact that the first step for healing is to correctly diagnose the case- then comes the second stage of looking for the right remedy. He also talked about the link between stress and lethal diseases stressing the importance of handling stresses even before accumulating through alleviation practices including different hobbies.

KNPC Sponsors Pituitary Gland Disorders Conference
Springing from KNPC vision which is totally committed to supporting thwe NGO and in cooperation and coordination with the Medical Division-SHE KNPC sponsored the medical conference organized by the Kuwait Society for Endocrinology affiliated to Kuwait Medical Association during 16-15-2008 at the Association headquarter in Jabriya.
The conference was dedicated for discussing the pituitary gland disorders and was resided by Dr. Abdul Nasser Al-Othman- Head of Endocrinology Unit-Sabah Hospital who praised KNPC efforts to support such important activities.
Commenting on the aims of the conference Dr. Zaidan Al-Mazaidi Head of Pediatric Endocrinology Unit-Sabah Hospital- Chairman of the Society and Chairman of the Conference Scientific Committee- indicated that there are many diseases related to the pituitary gland which is described as the Body Maestro because it controls the other glands and regulates body fluids and minerals in addition to influencing children growth. Due to the medical importance of the endocrine glands the Society decided to organize four conferences every year to discuss all disorders of these glands and to exchange expertise and knowledge regarding diagnosis and curing such disorders.
Dr. Zaidan Al-Mazidi also hailed KNPC’s participation in the conference emphasizing the Company honorable record of cooperation with the Society noting that KNPC sponsored and participated in similar medical conferences held before. He added that KNPC participation in the conference functions was not limited to financial support but it also included the presence of the company Medical Division team who provided the conferees with some medical services such as blood glucose- hemoglobin and Blood Pressure testing in addition to KNPC stand in the lobby which contained a valuable set of publications on the health awareness campaigns launched by company on cancer liver and digestive system diseases.

Tier- III Drill at the New Oil Pier –MAA
Acting upon its corporate responsibility and commitment to the safety of its employees- society- environment and installations- KNPC is keen on making all efforts to apply the best safety standards procedures and practices for all processes designs and constructions at all its facilities. To achieve this strategic target KNPC prepared the Major Incident Procedure Plan MIPP for responding to any emergency and identifying the roles of the individuals.
Within the framework of this plan KNPC organized on 3/4/2008 a Tier- III Drill at the New Oil Pier –MAA . The drill was exercised by the KNPC refineries and KOC support and oil spill response teams in addition to Kuwait Municipality Emergency Teams and in presence of K- EPA observers.
The drill scenario prepared by SHE involved a rupture of the Eocene crude line and spillage of 600 Tons of oil into the sea with some of this quantity escaping towards the shore. The exercise included containing and recovering the spilled oil and cleaning the beaches to minimize the ill environmental impacts. As the spill was large and required large and organized resources the international organization OSRL was called for providing technical support.
Commenting on the drill Mr. Fahad Al-Dihani- Manager SHE said that the aim of this exercise was to check and enhance the preparedness of all individuals and equipment to respond to such emergencies and combat successfully oil spills. He also added that the drill is one of the many exercises performed every year at all the company sites so as to boost and upgrade the staff capabilities and efficiency when handling emergencies in addition to detecting shortcomings to avoid in the future and enhance the positive aspects that surface up during the drill especially those related to industrial safety-telecommunication system and coordination operations among all the participating organizations.

OJT Team Honored by Petroleum &Engineering College
Under the patronage of Professor Taher Ahmed Al-Sahaf- Dean of Engineering and Petroleum College the Engineering Training and Graduates Center - affiliated to Engineering and Petroleum College -Kuwait University organized a special gala party at Salwa Hall- Marina Hotel to honor the engineering bodies that took part in the field training program of the college students during the academic year 2006 / 2007.
The Human Resources On-Job-Training OJT section was also honored for organizing and supervising the training of the college students in coordination with the different KNPC departments.
At the end of the party Mr. Bader Al-Muzaini TL OJT Mrs. Abeer Behbehani SR. Specialist OJT and Mr. Habib Al-Baqer Specialist OJT were presented with appreciation awards souvenirs and memorial shields.

KNPC Chairman Visits Sabhan Depots
Within the visit program prepared by the SHEMS which includes visiting KNPC refineries HO and LM by the company seniors Mr. Farouk Al-Zanki Chairman & M.D- Mr. Bakhit Al-Rashidi D.M.D.- Planning & Local MKTG and Engr. Fahd Al-Dihani Manager Safety Health & Environment made an inspection visit to the Fuel Central Depot at Sabhan
The tour started with welcoming the Chairman delegation who were introduced to the L &M Dept. officials by Engr. Adnan Bouresli Acting Manager Asst. Local Marketing who reviewed the work system and the training & development programs adopted by the department . Mr. Adnan also acquainted the Chairman on the contents of these programs and the organizing structure of the department then in turn Team Leaders reviewed their divisions work and plans. On his part the Chairman praised their efforts for improving their performance and urged them to keep on exerting harder efforts to maintain the company honorable status on top of all companies regarding providing full observance to the SHE principles in accordance with the international standards so as to keep up with the latest developments of multi-national companies working in the same field.
The Chairman called upon the employees to acquire more skills in order to cope with world technologies for boosting their personal safety and protecting their work place against any dangers that may occur in case of missing the ongoing training provided by the company for all its staff to avoid lagging behind the modern and ever- changing developments.
In spite of the bad weather conditions the Chairman and his companions accompanied by the L &M Acting Manager and Team Leaders visited the depot sites. At the end of the visit Chairman thanked all the attendants for their performance and wished them all the best.

Travel Time Allowance for NRP Employees
KNPC Management is pleased to announce adopting the decision to grant Travel Time Allowance to employees of the New Refinery Project NRP who are assigned to work at the NRP site at Al-Zour area. This allowance will compensate them for the time they have to spend after or before the official working hours. It will be paid on the following basis:
1-The distance and time to arrive in Al-Zour area will be calculated as KNPC head office Dar Al-Wataniya in Ahmadi Township is the Starting point.
2-The compensation will be paid at the rate of 0.577% of the monthly salary for each hour of the trip to and from the site.
3-Travel Time Allowance will be paid to the employees when they are asked to work beyond the working hours including holidays and the rest days.
4-Time needed to cover the distance to and from Al-Zour both ways is 90 minutes.

KNPC Participates in the Annual Suppliers Conference
KNPC participated in El-Connect Expo in London according to an invitation from the British Energy Industry Council EIC. A delegation presided by Mr. Ali Abdullah Ahmed- Manager Commercial Department- Mr. Khalil Esmail- TL PCG 3- NRP and Mr. Abdullah Fahad Al-Ajmi- TL Engineering CFP and both Mr. Naser Faleh Al-Thaqeb and Mr. Jamil Hasan Al-Awadi- TL Commercial Support-MAA met with the British manufacturers at the delegation pavilion.
During the Expo many British companies showed great interest in cooperating with KNPC whose delegation met representatives of 27 British companies in the first day. The British suppliers focused most on the KNPC pavilion . Next day the delegation presented seven lectures attended by more than 200 people who were briefed on a comprehensive overview and a summary on the company qualifying system. Representatives of the British companies were also interested in exploring the cooperation opportunities with KNPC including the two huge projects of the New Refinery and production of Clean Fuel.KNPC participation in the conference comes within the context of improving the company image all over the world and attracting the international companies to accomplish its projects and supply materials and spare parts which would in the end result heat up the competition and reflect positively on the company profitability

KNPC Organizes Introductory Meetings on Refinery-Operating Technology Program
KNPC Human Resources organized some introductory meetings for the Secondary school students as a move that completes the functions of the media campaign launched by the company last November with the aim of encouraging the Kuwaiti youth holding the secondary school certificate to join the of refinery-operating technology program affiliated to the PAAET.
The meetings was attended by 350 students and hosted by the secondary schools of Al-Imam Malek- Farhan Al-Khalid- Sulaiman Al-Adasani- Saleh Shehab and Jabir Al-Ali.Ojt team presented an introductory overview on the company and its vision and mission. They also reviewed the advantages enjoyed by its employees.
They explained the terms of the contract between the company and program students including the financial and administrative points in addition to the benefits offered by KNPC to the students throughout their study period during which the student will get KD 300 monthly salary besides employing him directly after graduation and they
presented a detailed explanation on the nature of work of the field operator job and stressed its importance. In addition they reviewed the safety procedures followed strictly by KNPC.
The program aims at believing in the paramount importance of supporting and encouraging Kuwaiti youths and developing their skills. KNPC is always keen on organizing such media campaign on annual basis to allow them to help upgrade and sustain the oil sector.

MAB Refinery Organizes Allergy & Bronchial Asthma Diseases Day
Within the health awareness programs adopted by KNPC and under the patronage of Engr. Mohamed Ghazi Al-Mutairi DMD- MAB Refinery and in the presence of Mr. Asaad Al-Saad Deputy Chairman & DMD - MAA- the Medical Division- affiliated to Safety Health and Environment SHE Department organized on 10/3/2008 a health awareness day on the allergy and bronchial asthma diseases. The activities of the health day started at MAB projects tent with a documentary film about allergy diseases symptoms and best preventive procedures.
Later on discussions were conducted and lecturers answered the inquiries and questions posed by the attendees. At the same time the organized expo housed many companies that were ready to offer lot of services and discounts for KNPC employees. At the end of the day Engr. Mohamed Ghazi Al-Mutairi honored the attendees and lecturers and distributed souvenirs to them.

Human Resources Employment Committee Interviews Job Applicants
The employment committee carried out interviews for the secondary school certificate holders who applied for the field operator job and for the refineries operation technology course who will join the Technology Institute affiliated to the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) with the aim of getting the refineries operation diploma.The interviews carried out at the Library- Head Office started with meeting the 333 Field operator applicants . The successful applicants will join a one-year training course divided into 6 months of academic training at the Petroleum Training Center and another 6 months of on-site training at the company refineries so as to be qualified as field operators. During that training period the trainees will receive a monthly salary of KD 300.Later interviews were carried out with the 23 refineries operation diploma applicants. The successful applicants will join the Technology Institute –PAAET to obtain the refineries operation diploma and the distinctive trainees with very good grades and over will receive a monthly award of K.D300.

KNPC Co-sponsors National Operetta : Our Legacy is Our Identity
Celebrating Kuwait National & Liberation Days and under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Ibrahim Duaij Al-Sabah- Governor of Al-Ahmadi- the Educational Activities Administration – Al-Ahmadi Educational Zone presented the national Operetta:Our Legacy is Our Identity with participation of male and female students at all stages of the governorate schools. Acting upon the pioneering role it adopts and believing in its social responsibility. KNPC co-sponsored this celebration that embodied the national sense of loyalty and affiliation and the joy of children and youth on this occasion that is dear to all the Kuwaiti people.
The event commenced with playing the national anthem and recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. Later patron Dr. Ibrahim Duaij Al-Sabah delivered a speech in which he expressed pleasure on attending the event and called on all Kuwaitis to maintain their national unity. He concluded with the immortal slogan: All for Kuwait and Kuwait for all. The Operetta started with folklore dances on the beats of Kuwaiti national songs, then a series of poetic and musical shows were presented by students wearing traditional costumes and using traditional musical instruments. The final scene was the most impressive whereby all the participating students grouped on the stage and were joined by Dr. Ibrahim Duaij Al-Sabah who waved the flag of Kuwait with the performers and audience amid an extremely cheerful atmosphere.

Long-Service Staff Honored
Within the context of its commitment to honor its employees who spent long years in service and believing that its human resources are its most valuable asset KNPC organized its first gala party for the year 2008 to honor a new batch of its long service employees who spent twenty years or more in work for the company. It is a tradition adopted and renewed regularly by KNPC in recognition of the sincere and commendable efforts made by those employees throughout their long service which made them a vital factor in the success formula of the company.Efforts made by long service employees were obviously reflected in the KNPC great development and numerous achievements which represent a source of national pride for all Kuwaitis.Mr.Farouk Al-Zanki and DMDs distributed recognition certificates and memorial gifts to the honored staff.

ITD Celebrates Launching MIPP SMS Callout System
A presentation was arranged on 20th February 2008 at Dar Al-Wataniya Auditorium to explain the features of the MIPP SMS Callout system.This system enables the ECCC Operators to send SMS to individual mobiles and groups of mobiles from the desktop computers using Web browser interface.The new system replaces the outdated and unreliable pager callout system.It also allows pre- configuring groups for each category of emergency- Arabic menus for easy understanding- English- Arabic message capability- message templates- message scheduling and return reply confirmations from role players.Towards the end of the event-Mr. Khaled Al-Asousi- Manager IT- presented appreciation certificates to the participants in the project.

The MAA refinery Operations Department celebrated the graduation of a new batch of its newly recruited engineers who completed successfully their on-job-training courses.The graduation panel was on 12/2/2008 at MAA Refinery.The engineers were awarded the graduation certificates and congratulated by the panel members.

KNPC Joins Television Stations During National Day Celebrations
KNPC joined Kuwait TV and Al-Rai TV stations during the National celebrations organized at Al-Shaab Entertainment Park on 23rd February 2008.Al-Rai Television started the celebrations in the early morning by a big entertainment program that included many folk and entertainment shows for adults and kids performed by local troupes as well as some Arab and foreign ones.
Gifts were given on behalf of the company to all attendants and participants and shared their cheering times and celebrations.
Later Kuwait Television arranged a program that included variety shows in which KNPC representatives took part- besides distributing gifts to attendants and participants and making all of them happy.Corp.Comm. Department left good impression after distribution of the gifts to those who attended or took part in the celebrations.

The Company Takes Part in Kharafi National Basketball Tournament
Within the context of its participation in the Kuwait National Day celebrations-KNPC took part in the 1st Kharafi National Basketball Tournament which was organized at Al-Nasr Sports Club. Twenty four teams participated in the championship and competed to get prizes.The Company team came second after tough matches and competitions with the other teams.The championship is considered one of the strongest of the recently held ones. The KNPC team won the admiration of all attendants due to its unique performance.
This is the first participation in a championship at that level which involved 24 teams and despite the short time allowed-the group was able to play in the final match.The company was keen through such participations to show the best performance.

KNPC Takes Part in Al-Ahmadi National Day Festival
Under the patronage of Al-Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Dr. Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah- officials- KNPC team and a large crowd participated in the governorate National Day celebrations under the emblem Nawaret Al-Ahmadi.The celebration began with the arrival of the sponsor to the celebration location within the tent behind Al-Ahmadi Governorate headquarters on Thursday 21st Feb 2008. After playing the national anthem and reciting verses from the Holy Quran- the governor reminded in his speech that Kuwait celebrated the lapse of two years transfer of power to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He said at present the responsibility shouldered has doubled and Kuwait has to count on the citizens adding that stability and prosperity of the country would be through loyalty to the nation.
Later Al-Ahmadi school students joined in an operetta reflecting their joy over the national celebrations. The governor accompanied by officials toured the KNPC pavilion set up marking the occasion.A delegation from the Corporate Communication Department and SHE Department received His Excellency Governor Sheikh Dr. Ibrahim Al-Duaij Al-Sabah and the guests at the pavilion.They briefed them on the company achievements and its efforts for pushing forward the national economy.Concluding the governor thanked KNPC for its concern over developing the country oil sector.

KNPC Procession Parades the Hala February 2008 Carnival
Kuwait celebrated the start of the ninth version of the Hala February festival with a wonderful carnnival
organized as usual in Salmiya. Decorations and balloon triumph
arches in the Kuwaiti flag colors received the large crowd of men-women and children who gathered there to enjoy the festival functions and activities including marches by the participating and sponsoriing companies and organizations- shows by folklore
troupes from all over the world and the musical and entertainment programs for children who painted
their cheerful innocent faces with the Kuwaiti flag colors.Celebrating this happy occasion KNPC took part in
the carnival parade with a procession of 24 employeees in refinery uniform who waved both KNPC and Kuwaiti flags. There was also a big model of the carttoon character Salama which features the KNPC awareness campaigns on safety and environment protection.

Employment Committee Interviews Field Operators
The Field Operators sub-committtee affiliated to the KNPC Human Resources Department began
its first interviewing session on 10-
12-2007 with the job applicants in a
bid to select the first batch of field operators.The sub-committee welcomed so far 50 applicants who sat for the required exams.So far 2527 trainees have already joined the KPC Petroleum Center with the aim of passing the English language course.When they pass the exams they will sit for the final interviews and will be enrolled in the Technological Instittute affiliate of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training before they take over their jobs at the refineries.

ISD Provides Audio Conferencing System For MAA Refinery
The Audio Conferencing System
provided by ISD - Telecom Division
for the MAA Operations Department
was formally inaugurated on 6/12/07.The system enables 28 perssons in one audio conference. Once the conference is initiated by the moderator through a telephone the
system automatically dials all the
persons in the predefined list and
joins them in a conference. Late
comers can join the conference by dialing the access number and PIN
code of the conference.

KNPC Launches ERM Project
KNPC has officially launched the Enterprise Risk Management Project. The launch came with the intent to design and implement a regular methodology for defining-classifying and appraising all types of the Company risks in addition to protection and enhancement of its assets. A well known specialized international consultant is helping in this regard.
Project implementation term is 12 months starting from December 9/2007 and up to end of this year. First meeting with the team was held on December 19/2007.

Connecting L.M with knpc radio trunking system network
KNPC information services celebrated with the Local Marketing dept.the launching of its new LM radio system during a weekly meeting held at LM head office in Sabhan.Over the past years the ISD Telecommunications division officials kept calling for linking the LM to the knpc radio trunking system network.But due to the LM need for a country coverage network the project was discarded.But after privatizing the gas filling stations it was quite proper to carry out this project that took 13 months to complete.

KNPC Organizes Suppliers, Contractors Workshop
KNPC Private Sector Encouragement Committee has organized workshops seeking opinion of a group of local manufacturers and contractors who mostly have deals with KNPC on establishing the proposed center.
The one-day workshop run at Bait Al-Watania Club.It was attended by representatives of 26 parties.
The workshop involved discussions on the relations with KNPC which the local manufacturer and contractor is willing to develop. The proposed developments comprised 70 angles classified later into 11 pivots that touch on quality of the services rendered by KNPC to the local manufacturers and contractors.
Earlier and according to an order from the Chairman and Managing Director KNPC has formed Private Sector Encouragement Committee with the aim of following up implementation of the KNPC devised mechanism for all concerned Departments.

KNPC Takes Part in the IPTC
The International Petroleum Techniques Conference IPTC kicks off in Dubai on 4/12/07. IPTC is one of the most important technical conferences that touch on the world energy sector.
Around 3000 visitors representing the major world oil and gas companies are expected to attend the event.KNPC is one of the petroleum companies participated in that event represented in MR.Farouq al-Zanki Chairman & Managing Director of KNPC.
The conference will be attended by representatives of the world biggest four conglomerates that operate the energy exploration and production field.
These are the Petroleum Engineering Society- European Union of Geology Scientists and Engineers-Society of Geophysics for Exploration Staff and the US Geology Society for Petroleum staff.
The IPTC is expected to be the most wide-based in the history of the region energy sector.

KNPC Launches Refinery Operation Technology Campaign
KNPC launched its media campaign to activate the refinery operation technology program which aims at encouraging the Kuwaiti youth to join the oil sector and work as field operators.
This campaign completes the previous media and field campaigns which the HRD organized in cooperation with the Corporate Communication Department to encourage the Kuwaiti Secondary graduates to work as field operators.
The field operator specialization studies are available at the School of Technological Studies- Public Authority for Applied Education and Training PAAET.
This specialization allows graduates to join KNPC and enjoy an ideal working environment which offers all career development means in addition to multiple job privileges.

Performance Analysis Team arranged on 5/11/07 a presentation devoted to reviewing the results of KNPC 2006 performance analysis study prepared by Solomon Associates.It is noteworthy that Solomon study is conducted every two years by the American company Solomon Associates which is one of the best and most famous consulting companies all over the world.The collaboration between knpc and Solomon Associates dates back to more than 20 years.The study aims to identify how competitive knpc is in the marketplace and to assess how well knpc refineries are operating their facilities.

MAA Succeeds in Loading the 4th Eocene Crude Shipment for Export
KNPC announced its success in loading the 4th shipment of Eocene crude to be exported. It is the 4th shipment to be produced in the Saudi and Kuwaiti divided zone and loaded via the new oil port in cooperation with KPC and KOC .
The volume of the shipment is more than half a million barrel that were loaded into the ship Al-Shuhada - martyrs adding that such exporting operations represent another alternative to export this type of Eocene crude instead of relying solely on Al-zour Port . Eocene crude is different from other crude oils as it contains high sulphur compounds such as H2S. The new H2S detecting systems were installed to measure its emission in air as well as supplying all the employees with personal devices to measure it and effectuate new accurate measures and steps for exporting operations so as to ensure full implementation of Safety Health & Environment system applied in KNPC.

Code of Conduct Media Campaign Launched
KNPC Head Office Auditorium witnessed the launch of the media campaign on 12/9/07 announcing the release of the unified Code of Conduct Document adopted by the company the same as other petroleum companies and aimed at regulating employee
conduct.KNPC Chairman and MD Sami Fahed Al-Rushaid said in his address that the Code of Conduct to be implemented throughout the oil sector attempts to document the practices already existing and prevalent within the company business operations. The media campaign launched is intended to introduce this significant document. Al-Rushaid added that KNPC is not only engaged in the refining and marketing business of oil but also concerned with best ethical practices associated with the values widely recognized in this sector, the company and the Kuwaiti community.
The document aims to provide a set of guidelines for all employees as to their behavior- performance- discharge of duties and vocational activities. It also regulates employee-employee relationship and with customers-contractors-government bodies and members of the public.

ISD celebrates new contract with KNETCO
Communication Division of Information Services dept. signed a new contact with the Kuwait Network Electronic Technological Company KNETCO with an objective to provide maintenance for knpc communication hardware and systems.The contract will run for 5 years effective May 7-2007.Under the contract KNETCO will provide all maintenance services for all wire and wireless telephone communication systems-data transfer and paging in all refineries and company buildings throughout Kuwait.The company will provide knpc with 95 specialist technicians with all requirements including tools-testing and measurement gear as well as transportation.

KPC Ships KNPC Crude with KOTC
KOTC Al-Jabriyah 2 the giant 333 meters long and USD 100 million worth has recently took its maiden voyage heading to Holland on 8/8/07 carrying a shipment of low Sulphur 132.000 MT crude oil purchased by KPC from KNPC. Projects Department is pleased to announce that they have achieved certification to ISO/TS 29001: 2003 along with ISO 9001: 2000. This was the outcome of their re-certification audit on 26-27 June 2007. ISO/TS 29001: 2003 is the Technical specification – Petroleum- Petrochemical and Natural Gas Industries – Sector-specific Quality management Systems – Requirements for product and service supply organisations. Projects Department is the first organisation in Kuwait to achieve this coveted certification. Gulf standards committee is working towards making ISO/TS 29001: 2003 mandatory for all organisations that supply products or services to oil sector in Gulf. KNPC honors Ministry of Information for its Support
KNPC Corporate Communication Department has met with Ministry of Information Undersecretary Sheikh Faisal Al-Malik- Assistant Undersecretary for TV Affairs Khaled Al-Nassrallah and Assistant Undersecretary for Commercial Sector Fawzi Al-Tamimi on 25/7/07 to honor them and recognize their efforts exerted to support the Environmental Campaign launched by KNPC earlier and that covered several awareness functions and environmental events.
Al-Malik explained that the Ministry of Information has taken it upon itself to provide all available facilities and possible support because it firmly believes in the magnitude similar campaigns hold to raising awareness of noble causes such as the protection of environment.

KNPC Launches Summer Training Program for employees Sons
The KNPC has launched the summer training program for sons of employees. In fact this program has been launched since 2000 by the HR Department springing from the pioneering company future outlook in the social field.
The program that continues until next August aims at briefing the students on KNPC activities and encouraging them to think about joining the workplace when they finish their studies. Training allows them to upgrade their skills- gaining experience through direct contact with the staff working at the various departments and refineries besides practice of the activities that cope with their qualifications.
By end of the training program the trainees from both genders will receive rewards KD 300 for university student and KD 225 for other students. This is in addition to two accredited certificates one for passing the program and the second lists the tasks performed during the program.

KNPC carries out an evacuation drill in MAA Refinery
KNPC has carried out an evacuation drill in MAA Refinery on 25/6/07. The drill scenario started with a leakage from the crude line feeding the refinery unit CDV-4 . As a result alarms went on in the site and consequently the whole unit as well as the adjacent units CDV-5 and CCR were completely shut down .

Extensive Recruitment Campaign in KNPC
KNPC is currently running an extensive recruitment campaign targeting general secondary certificate holders to fill Field Operators openings. The campaign witnessed intense application submittals by Kuwaiti youth who are eager to join the employ of KNPC. ISD Achieves ISO/IEC 27001:2005 Certification
Information Services Department proudly announces that KNPC has officially been certified for ISO/IEC 27001:2005 - Information Security Management as of April 3 2007 for all ISD related services. The certification audit was conducted by DNV Certification authority based in Norway after an extensive audit which was carried out in two phases.
The objective of the Information Security Management System ISMS is to empower KNPC to manage its information security risks.
KNPC is the first oil company in Kuwait to acquire this prestigious ISO 27001 Certification.

KNPC shuts oil unit at Shuaiba refinery
KNPC has shut a 50000 barrels per day heavy oil unit at its SHU refinery for 3-4 weeks of unplanned maintenance.The outage would not affect the crude processing capacity of the plant and it would reduce crude runs by 20% to 160000 bpd and would lead to lower naphtha and middle distillate output

Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery has won one of the prestigious RoSPA Occupational Health & Safety Awards for 2007. Mr. Adel Al-Mejel- Team Leader Safety & Fire - MAA represented KNPC in receiving the Award.
The Gold Award was presented at a special ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel- National Exhibition Centre on Tuesday May 22 which ran alongside Safety & Health Expo 2007 the UK premier Health and safety at work exhibition.
David Rawlins RoSPA Awards Manager said that KNPC-Mina Al Ahmadi Refinery have demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies.
The RoSPA awards are not just about reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill-health at work but also they help to ensure that organizations have good health and safety management systems in place. Southern Port Loading Berths 5&6 Fully Operative

KNPC organized the Fourth Gulf Quality Applications Forum in governmental companies and organizations in cooperation and coordination with the Saudi Arabian Quality Council – West Region during the period 8-9 May 2007 at SAS Hotel in the State of Kuwait. The activities of the forum was opened by Minister of Oil in Kuwait Sheikh Ali Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah.In addition to the speeches and lectures to be delivered by key note speakers-the sessions of the conference addressed several immediate issues that are important to companies - governmental and semi governmental organizations in GCC countries and tackled also quality applications in sectors and various governmental organizations. KNPC Signs MOU with Japanese Xenesys For Energy-saving and Environmentally-friendly Project
KNPC has recently signed a Memorandum Of Understanding with Xenesys Inc. on 30/4/07 which is an environmental venture business in Japan, that has successfully developed a technology capable of generating electricity and producing water using waste heat as its energy source. This energy-saving technology is referred to as DTEC a short form for Discharged Thermal Energy Conversion.
KNPC has learned about DTEC and being a leader in environmental protection focused on implementation of energy-saving projects that would contribute positively to environment issues in the Gulf region as well as Kuwait has decided to adopt this new technology in light of the rapid economic growth - environmental problems and high energy cost and substantial increase of demand for electricity in Kuwait.

Oil leak under control
An oil leak from MAB refinery had been brought under control.The leak quantity of oil is not much and efforts are being made to clean the site of leakage which is the sea area next to MAB refinery.KNPC along with the public authority of environment have been working to remove the traces of barrels of oil that leaked from storage tanks of the refinery from the nearby beach sea waters of Arabian Gulf.Efforts will also be made to prevent occurrence of similar accidents in the future.The leakage resulted from an operational fault but did not affect the production of the refinery.

KNPC Intends to Change its Fire System
National Petroleum Services Company “NAPSCO” announced that it has been awarded a consulting contract to prepare documents relevant to changing the fire fighting system presently existing at KNPC. NAPSCO’s share from this contract will be 5% as local agents to the Belgium company FPC. The Total amount of the contract will be KD 1250680. The contract will include the three refineries and local marketing.

KNPC Negotiates USD 500 mm Reactors for NRP
KNPC is currently negotiating with manufacturers the purchase of USD 500 mm reactors for the New Refinery Project. The funds are prepaid and delivery is expected this year. Sources confirm that KNPC will continue the relevant studies of the nine offers received thus far from international companies to build the new refinery that will be awarded under four separate contracts.

Pollutants Preventive Project at Heavy Oil Fluidized Catalytical Cracking Unit in MAA Refinery
MAA Refinery DMD Asaad Ahmed Al-Saad announced that Heavy Oil Fluidized Catalytical Cracking Unit in MAA Refinery currently producing 43,000 bpd of ordinary gas used by vehicles will receive an integral filter system to prevent pollutants emission. The cost of the project will reach KD 4mm.
This project comes in line with the renovation efforts exerted by KNPC to support statewide interest in producing clean fuel that would preserve the environment.

KNPC along with Energy Ministry are studying the possibility of producing electric power from crude oil and its derivatives.The purpose of that study is to save money in the production of electricity.The production of electric power was based on the use of gas.Therefore it was decided to switch to another form of raw energy like crude oil.

KNPC has the intention to buy a 40% up to 45% share of the perfumery complex project from PIC.Negotiations with PIC regarding that deal are seriously conducted and KNPC may obtain that share before the end of the year 2006.

MAA refinery FUP-MRTA Major Refinery Turnaround
has started covering the atmospheric residue desulphurization units.The Hydrocraker and the supporting units the HPs/HR/TGT/SWT/Flare/Sea Water/Steam/Utilities and Waste Water Treatment Facilities.Maintenance activities will be for a duration of One Month and work will be carried out through Working Cells around the clock.Each of which has a particular schedule to carry out maintenance work and certain modifications/projects that will enhance Safety & Environment Protection.It is worth highlighting that MAA refinery will continue with its full Crude Processing Capacity of 466.000 bpd with a slight change in some yields that will not affect the normal supply for both dimostic & international markets through proper utilities of products and stocks plus closing coordination with the other KNPC refineries

Shuaiba Refinery Regains Full Processing Capacity
KNPC announced that all processing units at Shuaiba Refinery has regained full capacity following the limited explosion incident that took place on November 4th, 2006 at H-Oil Unit and caused a number of its units to shut down.
Through a team the company formed directly after the accident, it managed to repair the damages inflicted to the said H-Oil Unit and restore it to its normal operational condition. Accordingly, Shuaiba Refinery has retained its full refining capacity of 200,000 bpd.
