Physical IT Security System Deployed at KNPC Within framework of promoting KNPC’s leading and distinctive role at all performance levels, and to cope with the global trend of adopting smart systems to facilitate procedures and transactions while maintaining confidentiality and secrecy, Mr. Khalid Al-Asousi, Manager, Information Technology Dept. (IT), announced the conclusion of the first phase of the Physical IT Security System implementation project by using the existing smart Cards to access KNPC PCs/laptops. The project’s first phase included KNPC Head Office 800 employees. He added that the next phase - which has already started – includes applying the system to all computer users for both KNPC and seconded staff at different locations of the three refineries and local marketing.Commenting on the objectives of implementing such a system, Al-Asousi indicated that adopting the advanced system by the company makes it the first in the State of Kuwait to widely apply this technology, and places it among the leading global companies and organizations such as “Chevron”, “Microsoft” and the “Barclays Bank” which have the best technical systems for managing and preserving confidentiality of information assets through making sure that different PCs/laptops are used only by the authorized personnel. Before, anyone having the user name and password for any PC or laptop could use it, but now they will be denied access unless they have the assigned smart card.
